Last year our school encouraged our students to use Xtra Math as a way to learn and practice their math facts. Math Expressions, our current math program, uses a different approach to math fact fluency and practice. We work on strategies and facts that are related to one another. Xtra Math is not organized in that manner. If you would like your child to practice his/her facts, please have her orally recite the sets at home that we are working on at school. For example, we started with 5s, 2s, and now we have moved on to 10s. Oral practice of these facts will build automaticity. www.IXL.com offers limited practice on a variety of concepts including facts organized by groups. Feel free to encourage your son/daughter to practice on IXL.
Once all of our facts have been learned we will send home the codes for practicing using Xtra Math.
